Autumns Coming
Can't say I feel sorry for the end of Summer. While a lot of you probably love sitting outside with the sun on your face enjoying a glass of chilled wine or Summer Ale, eating fancy salads, BBQ's etc. while being attacked by a plague of Wasps, Hornets and Gnats, I'm a lover of the Autumn & Winter Months. Yes, it can be wet, cold & horrid outside, but that's what makes the old English pub the attraction it is, a safe haven. While away the hours by a roaring log fire, eating good wholesome food washed down with a great pint of Ale. Nirvana.
Arabian Night & Belly Dancing
On 10th September we'll be holding an Arabian Night. Food, Music & dancing from the Middle East will be the order of the night. For those of you who not sure about eating at a Lebanese or Morrocan Restaurant, this could be the perfect introduction to Arabian Cuisine. Lots of varying Specialties, both hot and cold available from the buffet. Followed by the obligatory Belly Dancing.
Personally, I cant see why it's called belly dancing as everything seems to move, especially the backside, which I'm sure under controlled conditions could cause mass hypnosis. Anyhow, it should be a great night.
Events at the Bird
We have a lot going on in the next couple of months. Starting this Friday with a Tapas & Paella Evening. The great thing about Tapas is its easy, Gourmet Fast Food.
On Sunday its a Charity Dog Show in aid of the YMCA. there'll be lots going on.A BBQ & Beer Tent ( Ascots Posh Pooch),Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Bric-a-Brac stall, Tombola and more. The Judging will start at 1.15pm, with a wide variety of classes from Most Beautiful Bitch !(Category names have nothing to do with me, honestly) to Waggiest Tail.
Brewdog
As from last week I've slightly changed my system of guest ales. From now on i'm devoting 1 pump to a Brewdog beer. which will of course change every couple of days. Apart from the fact that I love their beers, they are also very progressive in their brewing. From the Trashy Blonde at 4.1% (a light hoppy easy drinker) to their 5AM Saint (5%, Tastes like liquid marmalade) to Punk IPA( 6% very hoppy Pale ale) to Paradox (10% a refined beast of a stout aged in whisky barrels for 6 month). there is pretty much something for everyone, and of course they do monthly specials as well!
Meet the Brewer Evening
MARK IN YOUR DIARY.... Oct 8th The Bird in Hand
Friday 8th Oct will be our 1st of many Meet the Brewer evenings at the Bird. Our 1st brewery will be Brewdog Brewery from Aberdeenshire. Only started brewing in 2007, it has already acheived legendary status amongst Beer lovers not just for their flair for brewing, but also for some of their incredibly strong bottled beers; 'Sink the Bismark' was 41%.
